vetiveria zizanioides
Steam distilled from distilled from the roots. The roots are soaked, washed, dried, chopped and the distilled oil is dark brown, earthy, woody, with a little bit of smokiness. The oil is common in oriental perfumes, and is often where persistence is needed. Apart from its intrinsic beautiful odour, it acts as an excellent fixative for volatile compounds. It is known for its fortifying properties, and yet paradoxically it is recemmeded where cooling is needed.
A tip - vetiver is not everybody's cup of tea - too earthy for many - but it will grow on you we hope ...we found it did on us.
