Ant Rid
Personal Insect Repellent Balm
Recipe - Ant Rid
50 mls peppermint essential oil
50 mls camphor essential oil
Method
Measure and combine the essential oils together in an amber glass bottle. Shake well.
To use sprinkle a few drops where ants or mice are appearing. Ants in particular hate the smell of this blend and will avoid the area. You may want to add the oil to a sponge rather than directly onto furniture or benchtops etc. Replenish on an as needed basis.

Recipe - Personal Insect Repellent Balm
200 grams grapeseed or other light oil
50 grams beeswax
50 drops lavender essential oil
30 drops citronella essential oil
20 drops peppermint essential oil
20 drops eucalyptus essential oil
10 drops orange essential oil
10 drops cedarwood himalayan essential oil
Method
Measure the grapeseed oil and beeswax, place in a heat proof glass or stainless steel jug. Measure the essential oils and put to one side.
Warm the grapeseed oil and beeswax on a low heat on the stove top (by putting the glass or stainless steel jug in a pan of water and then heat the pan). Heat until the wax has melted, don't boil. You don't want this too hot as it can "kill off" some of the properties of the essential oils when they are added. Remove from the heat and stir gently to thoroughly incorporate the oil and wax.
Add the measured essential oils and stir thoroughly to incorporate.
Decant and allow to let set.
Plant based insect repellents rely on their fragrance to repel insects. So these need to be reapplied more frequently than commercial based repellents. Don't reapply more than hourly however.
Keep out of eyes and mouth.
Don't apply to childrens hands (as they stick fingers in mouths). Also do not apply to children more frequently than every 3 hours and DO NOT apply to children under 5. Their ability to tolerate essential oils is less than that of older children and adults.
